TO THE EDITOR:I would like to clarify several points presented in the Southern Standard recently concerning the sales tax lawsuit settlement between the City of McMinnville and Warren County. In assuming this was a useless venture that took $5 out of your left pocket and put it into your right, ignores the fact the county population is 40,000 and the city’s is 13,000.Less than 33 percent of the county’s residents live in the city, but 100 percent are pitching in to pay the city back for the lawsuit. Obviously 40,000 people versus 13,000 makes the pie slices much smaller. To put it another way, city residents are getting a 3:1 gain in the tax settlement.
