Just a Thought - I'm pulling for Hennessee

Cheer: L-E-T-S-G-O, let’s go Robert! L-E-T-S-G-O, let’s go Robert!

No, unlike the “Let’s go Brandon” that’s a veiled, vulgar insult to President Biden disguised as something positive, I’m cheering on Robert Hennessee. I hope he tries again.

I think Commissions Christy Ross said it best on Facebook when she called this recent development – the resignation of Scottie Keel – a debacle. She voiced discontent with this being the outcome of the “most vicious, spite-filled, mudslinging campaign ever held in our county.”

I couldn’t agree more. Truer words have never been spoken. This was a humiliating mess but not only for Scottie, who really should have done some homework on the job he was vying to obtain, but it was also embarrassing for anyone who voted him into office.

Without a shadow of a doubt, this election cycle did nothing to improve my opinion on elections. Maybe this humbling change of events will right a wrong. Rarely, if ever, do voters get a do-over.

That 2nd District field also contained Sommer Walker, Dana Mullican, Robert Hennessee and Dwight Bouldin. I’m familiar with all four and any of them would have been a welcome addition to county government. They would have, at the very least, accepted the position they were elected to hold.

Importantly, to my knowledge, none ran a smear campaign to discredit any other candidate. Those that do, should not be elected.

One of the many slants I heard against Hennessee was his decision to abstain from the Second Amendment Sanctuary measure in February 2020. That resolution was the biggest waste of government time, effort and taxpayer money that I had seen come out of county government up to that time.

Thank you Commissioner Scott Rubley for proposing it. All it did was put a target on the backs of anyone who wasn’t 100% in favor. Being deemed a Second Amendment Sanctuary isn’t worth the paper it was printed on. It in no way protected Warren County from gun control laws. People perceived it as such, but they were wrong.

Speaking of a waste of government time, effort and taxpayer money, kudos to you Commissioner Cole Taylor for taking a stand during the last commission meeting’s “special” presentation by Stacy Lee. He questioned why, being a Grundy County resident, she didn’t go to their meetings instead.

She questioned the relevance and did not answer. Let me answer it. She comes here because Warren County’s government meetings are televised. Gundy County’s government meetings are not televised. She has a televised podium.

If you are clueless as to what “Let’s go, Brandon” actually means, give me a call or shoot me an email. Like I said, it’s a vulgar insult. Prepare yourself to hear a four-letter word.
