McMinnville resident and Warren County native William Parker Smartt, 79, was born Nov. 27, 1939 and died Jan. 4 at his residence following an extended illness.

Retired from the Tennessee Department of Transportation and a member of the Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Jonah and Annie Fults Smartt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by granddaughter Brandie Nashea Marie Smartt; daughter-in-law Tina Smartt; and sister Frances Boyd.

He was married May 25, 1984 to Mary Damron Smartt of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Emily (Jerry) Wimley, Russell Smartt (Lori Sherill), and Ross Smartt, all of McMinnville; seven grandchildren, Debra Irwin, Dawn Wimley, Brandy Brooks, Jonie Smartt, Jeffery Lewandowski, Caleb Smartt and Tisha Johnson; nine great-grandchildren; niece Sue Terrazas; and nephew Jimmy Boyd.

Funeral service was Monday, Jan. 7, at High’s Chapel with Mike Anderson officiating. Burial followed at Smyrna Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.highfuneralhome.com.
