William Austin Vickers, 86, of McMinnville died Monday, March 9 at his residence.
He was born Aug. 14, 1928 in Cannon County and was retired after 20 years of service in the U.S. Air Force, operated a dairy and farmed for 43 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents Willie Delter and Louzetta Blair Vickers; son, Billy Dan Vickers; sisters, Juanita Anderson and Louise Bogle; and brothers, Glenwood Vickers and Johnny Winford Vickers.
Survivors include his wife, Helene Vickers of McMinnville; daughter, Patsy Roberts of Tullahoma; daughter-in-law, Valerie Vickers of Henderson, Nev.; sister, Judy Coppinger of McMinnville; brother, J.D. Vickers of North Carolina; grandchildren, Nicholas Austin Roberts and wife, Whitney Roberts of Tullahoma, and Britta Annaliese Roberts of Oakland, Calif.; and great-grandchildren, Jozie Elise Roberts and Zoie Alexis Lynne Roberts. Many nieces, nephews, family members and friends also survive.
Funeral service is 1 p.m. Friday at McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. James C. Johnson will officiate with Rev. Frank Gale to assist. Interment will follow at Gunter Grizzell Cemetery. Military grave rites will be administered by American Legion Post 173 and VFW Post 5064. The Vickers family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and again from noon until the time of service Friday at the parlors of McMinnville Funeral Home.
