Vita Marie Lance Gulley, wife of A.J. Gulley, deceased, died quietly at home Jan. 2 at the age of 100.
She was a Warren County native born June 29, 1920 to Amos and Opal Scott Lance. She was preceded in death by husband A.J. Gulley, sister Freda Jennings Bouldin, brother Charles (Stella) Lance, Donald Lance, son-in-law Wayne Dunlap, and great-granddaughter Adah Hobbs.
Vita is survived by one son A.J. (Phyllis) Gulley, two daughters Donna Dunlap and Janet (David) Hobbs, grandchildren Susan Gulley, Megan (Steven) Jamison, James B. Dunlap, Sarah Hobbs, Laura (Christopher) Twohig, and James (Ashley) Hobbs, great-grandchildren Gideon Twohig, Ariah and Avah Hobbs, two sisters Yvonne Helton Gunter and Delma Helton, sisters-in-law Mae Belle Lance and Mary Pedigo, and many nieces and nephews.
She was a servant to her Lord, attending Christ Community Church, a role model to her children and others by serving as a Cub and Girl Scout leader and Westwood girls’ softball mom. Vita was a 50+ year member of Bonner FCE Club and a charter member in the 4 L’s (Lance) reunion group, serving in several leadership positions.
Vita loved her family, quilting, reading and travel. She lived an amazing 100 years, being an amazing woman; a blessing to all who knew her and her family. Special thank you to Avalon Hospice and other caregivers for their support and respectful, loving care for our mother during her last days.
Graveside services will be held at Smyrna Cemetery on Wednesday, Jan. 6, at 11 a.m. The family requests those attending to wear masks. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Avalon Hospice.
