Mr. Vernon Clifton Spicer, 87, of Rock Island (Midway community) died Wednesday, Oct. 30, at the Webb House in Smithville. 

He was born Aug. 21, 1932, in Livingston, was a retired dairy farmer with Spicer Brothers & Sons Dairy, a member of New Bybee Chapel United Methodist Church, and served his country with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was also a member of the American Legion, the Dairy Farmers of America, served on committee’s with Farm Credit, Federal Land Bank, and Putnam and Warren County Soil Conservation Districts, and was active participant in the Midway community. Mr. Spicer was preceded in death by parents Coby Daniel and Odell Maynard Spicer, wife Mildred Lee Bush Spicer, brother Ronald Spicer, and brother-in-law Billy Bush.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Kevin and Carrie Locke Spicer, granddaughters Katie and LeAnne Spicer, sister Euline (Leon) Robbins, and brothers Mayford (Gloria) Spicer, Clarence (Pauline) Spicer, J.C. (Cheryl) Spicer, Joe (Arlene) Spicer, Mike (Patricia) Spicer, and Jack Spicer, sister-in-law Bobbie (Toby) Roberts. Several nieces, nephews, family members, and friends surviving. 

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Joey Spicer and Bryan Locke will officiate. Interment will follow at Old Bybee Cemetery. Military grave rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 173 and VFW Post 5064. The Spicer family will receive friends Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., and again Saturday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the parlors of McMinnville Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at
