U.G. Bennett, 91, a Campaign community resident and Coffee County native, died May 22 in Raintree Manor following an extended illness.Mr. Bennett was a self-employed carpenter and electrician who built 66 houses and three churches in the Campaign area before he retired. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, member of the Church of God of Prophecy and son of the late George W. and Bertha Basham Bennett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by devoted wife of almost 60 years, Florence Magdalene Roberts Bennett; sisters Mildred Miller, Naomi DeVolt and Violet Roberts; and brother, Howard Bennett.Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, James L. and Sandra Bennett of Michie and Bill L. and Ann Bennett of Viola; three daughters and sons-in-law, Allene and Charles Glenn of Rock Island, Judy and Bobby Wallace of Sparta, and Shirley and Michael Dodd of Liberty; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill and Leonard Bennett, both of Hillsboro; and two sisters, Myrtle Ritchie of Manchester and Betty Hale of Chattanooga.Graveside service and interment will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Hill Cemetery with Rick Lyles to officiate.
