Sue R. Barnes, 65, a Warren County resident and Marion County native, was born Feb. 27, 1953 and passed away Feb. 3 at St. Thomas River Park Hospital following an extended illness.

She was a homemaker and the daughter of the late Barney and Vera Mae Griffith. Mrs. Barnes was married March 25, 1972 to David Lee Barnes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by grandparents, Harvey and Lora Higgins, brothers Jackie and Jerry Layne, sister Bonnie (Bill) Dickerson and brothers-in-law Billy Charles and Milton Barnes.

Survivors include her husband David Barnes of McMinnville, daughter and son-in-law Tammy and Stacey Sliger of Morrison, grandsons Gregory Tyler Bouldin of McMinnville, and Rylan and Andy Sliger of Morrison,  granddaughter Graylin Sliger of Morrison, mother Sis Layne of Whitwell, brothers, Anthony (Sharon) Griffith and Jamie (Margie) Layne, both of Whitwell, and Jimbob (Lisa) Layne of Crossroads, sisters Barbara (Eddie) Nunley, Kay Kilgore, Doris Nunley, Judy Kilgore and Emma (John) Shadrick, all of Whitwell, sisters-in-law Betty Barnes, Kay Barnes and Edith Barnes, all of McMinnville, and several nieces, nephews.

Funeral service was Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Whitwell Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Whitwell with Rev. Bill Ross officiating. Burial followed at Griffith Creek Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.highfuneralhome.com or www.whitwellmemorialfuneralhome.com.
