Spencer resident Mr. Sidney Burton Martin, 72, passed away Saturday, Oct. 23, at Cookeville Regional Hospital from a lingering illness.  

Sidney was born Aug. 1, 1949 to the late Rayburn and Thelma DeLong Martin. He was a graduate of Van Buren County High School Class of 1967 and a resident of the Laurelburg community of Van Buren County. Sidney loved his little place on earth and enjoyed working in his yard. He was of the Baptist faith and was retired from Nissan.

Sidney is survived by his loving family, wife Paulette Hale Martin, sons Chad Martin and Adam Martin, daughters Jania Marsh, Dawn Giebel and Casey (Chris) Jebelian, grandchildren Timothy, Kendra, Skylan, Harley, Logan, Silas, Ayden, Hunter and Brooklyn, great-grandchildren Truett, Branch, Colt, Miraclelyn, Wales and three more on the way, stepchildren Shanna McCormick and Tara Lewis, step-grandchildren Ben (Kendra) Roller and Michael Rutledge. Extended family and a multitude of friends also survive.

Funeral service will be held Monday, Nov. 1, at 2 p.m. at Layne Chapel with Bro. Bob McCoy officiating. Burial will follow at Long Cemetery. Visitation hours are Monday from 9 a.m. till time of service at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Long Cemetery Trust Fund for the upkeep of the cemetery.
