Sara J. Baker, 86, of Washington, Ill., died at 6:58 a.m. Sunday, June 4 surrounded by her family.
She was born on Aug. 18, 1930 in McMinnville, the daughter of Will and Josie Thomison. Mrs. Baker was married May 19, 1948 in LaFayette, Ga., to Hoyt Baker, who preceded her in death on Sept. 2, 1996 in Peoria. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William “Murpha” and Robert “Wilson” Thomison.
Surviving are two daughters, Patricia (Ira Kushner) Baker of Cheshire, Conn. and Deborah Baker of East Peoria, Ill.; four grandchildren, Annie (Nick) Tsikretsis of Skokie, Ill., Brian (Melissa) Bandeko of Toulon, Ill., Cassidy Kushner and Caroline Kushner both of Cheshire, Conn.; two great-grandchildren, Niko and Luca Tsikretsis; and two nephews Mike Thomison of Peoria, Ill., and Brett Heckman of Franklin.
Sara was a dedicated employee of OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria for 30 years, retiring in 1986.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 9 at High’s Chapel. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, and 10 a.m. Friday until the time of service at High’s. Memorials in her name may be given to OSF Hospice or to Neighborhood House-Peoria.
