Mr. Paul Mason Newby, 86, of McMinnville, passed away Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025 at Willow Branch. He was born on March 29, 1938 in McMinnville and attended church at First Baptist Church of Smartt. Paul started his career in sales at Shelton Olds Pontiac-Buick in 1960 where he remained for 18 years as a sales manager. In addition to Shelton’s, he operated the movie projector for Cowan Oldham Theater and Ben Lomand Drive-In for many years. He and his wife owned and operated Newby Motors from 1978 to 2010. Paul loved fishing, hunting and riding dirt bikes on the mountain. He was a man who loved his family dearly.

Paul is survived by his wife of 69 years, Willene J. Newby; sons, Johnny (Mary) Newby and Tim (Denise) Newby; grandchildren, Josh (Abby) Newby, Nicolette Newby (fiancé Jacob McFarland) and Chase Newby; great granddaughter, Margaret Newby; a great grandson arriving in July; sisters, Becky (Doug) Bost and Jackie (Eddie) Perry; brothers-in-law, Tommy Bess and Gary Grizzell; sister-in-law, Marcie Bess; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Hiram Jack Newby; mother, Martha Lee Jordan Newby; brother and sister-in-law, Morris (Betty) Newby; father-in-law, Roy Bess; mother-in-law, Delma Bess; great granddaughter, Grace Michelle Newby; sisters-in-law, Judy Bess and Ruby Grizzell; and brother-in-law, Ralph Bess.

The funeral service for Paul Newby is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26 at First Baptist Church of Smartt. Johnny Newby and Tim Newby will officiate. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. The Newby Family received friends on Tuesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at McMinnville Funeral Home and again on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Smartt.
