Monte Lee Smith, 85, of Imlay City, Mich., died Wednesday, Jan. 14, at Medilodge of Yale.
He was the son of Arnold and Delila Smith. He was born Aug. 21, 1929 in Detroit and grew up there. He previously lived in Viola, Tenn., for 20 years and St. Clair Shores. Monte married Beverly June Biggar on Aug. 5, 1949 in Detroit. He served his county proudly with the United States Marine Corp during World War II. He earned an engineering degree from Cass Technical School in Detroit. He retired from Wilson Automation in Roseville where he was a project design engineer. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Roseville.
He is survived by wife Beverly Smith of Imlay City; sons, Gary (Cheryl) Smith of Imlay City, Alan (Debra) Smith of Imlay City, Donald (Cheryl) Smith of New Haven, Kenneth Smith of Warren and Paul (Darlene) Smith of Memphis, Mich.; 18 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by granddaughter Nicole; brother, Bill; and sisters, Laura, Lillian, and Ruth.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City. Chaplin John Mulder will officiate. Burial will follow at Arcadia Township Cemetery in Lum. The family will be available for visiting from 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday.
