Maxine Gordy Winton, 81

McMinnville resident and Rossville, Ga., native, Maxine Gordy Winton died Aug. 12 after a brief illness.
She was the daughter of the late James E. and Hassie L. (Mathis) Gordy. She was married to the late Alfred Winton. She is survived by her children, Sherry (Jerry) Hale, Sandra Winton Davidson, David (Judy) Winton, and grandchildren, Elizabeth Boren, Lauren and Richard Davidson, Seth and Cole Winton. She is also survived by sister Johneen Gordy Winton, and brother Paul Gordy along with several nieces and nephews.
An avid reader and cat lover, Mrs. Winton was a registered nurse at Faulkner Springs Hospital prior to being a longtime Warren County educator as a first-grade teacher and, subsequently, a librarian at West Elementary. She was a graduate of Central High School, class of 1954, Belmont’s Nursing School at Baptist Hospital, and earned bachelor and master degrees in education from Tennessee Tech University. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and church librarian for many years.
A graveside service and burial was held Monday at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Meals on Wheels and Gideon Bibles. Online condolences may be made at
