Mary Sumner Spivey died September 20 at her residence.

Mary Sumner Spivey, 87, a McMinnville resident and Henryville native, was born June 23, 1930 and died Sept. 20 at her residence following an extended illness.
She was a retired teacher with the Warren County School System, member of First Baptist Church and daughter of the late Thomas Yerby and Bell Knott Sumner. Mrs. Spivey was married Sept. 25, 1953 to Herman Ray Spivey Sr., who preceded her in death on May 16, 2012. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sister, Geneva Adams.
Survivors include three children and spouses, Dr. Elizabeth (David Bergin) Spivey of Yankton, S.D., Sandra (Don) Kilgore of Greenback and Ray (Karen) Spivey Jr. of McMinnville; six grandchildren, Jesse Bergin of Yankton, S.D., Will Kilgore and Brian Kilgore, both of Greenback, Hamilton Spivey, Justin Spivey and Landon Spivey, all of McMinnville; sisters and brother-in-law, Irene Hammett of Knoxville and Patricia (Roger) Davis of Lenoir City; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service and interment will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24 at Mt. View Cemetery with Bo Hendrix to officiate. Visitation will be 12 to 3 p.m. Sunday at High’s.
