McMinnville resident and Warren County native Mary Elizabeth Steakley Gunter, 73, was born May 2, 1940 and died July 18 at NHC Healthcare McMinnville following an extended illness.A homemaker and member of the Church of God, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Damie Crain Steakley. She was married to Thad Gunter, who preceded her in death in 1991. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Steakley.Mrs. Gunter is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Tina and Michael Higgins of Rock Island, and Lisa and Roy Scolding of Franklin; granddaughter, Tyra Higgins of Rock Island, and several nieces and nephews.Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at High’s Chapel with Jason Brown and Steve Breedlove officiating.
