Piney community resident and Van Buren County native Louise Prater, 92, was born Nov. 15, 1925 and died June 23 at her residence following an extended illness.

A retired employee of Spencer Shirt Factory, she was the daughter of the late William Bryan and Josephine Simmons Mooneyham. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Jessee Moffitt and Charles Prater; stepdaughters Arlene Walling and Vickie Sides, and brother Grover L. Mooneyham.

Mrs. Prater is survived by two sons, Harold Leonard Moffitt and Jeffery Darrell (Annie) Moffitt, both of the Piney community, daughter Shelia Christine (Hugh) Pettit of Spencer; five stepchildren, Kathleen Hitchcock of Bone Cave, Agnes Beach of New Martin, Judy (Tom) Mendola of Cookeville, Mike (Kay) Prater of Sparta, and Connie Holland of Algood; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; sister Alta Moffitt of the Piney community and brother Albert (Jo) Mooneyham of Hixson.

Funeral service was Tuesday, June 26, at High’s Chapel with Gene Brock officiating. Burial followed at Shockley Cemetery in Van Buren County. Online condolences may be made at www.highfuneralhome.com.
