Lonnie Habert Raper, 73, of McMinnville passed from this life on Thursday, April 29, at his home.

Born Monday, Sept. 29, 1947 in McMinnville, he was the son of the late Lonnie Raper and the late Leona Owens Raper.

Lonnie loved Tennessee Walking Horses. He helped break and train the 1962 World Champion Ebony Masterpiece. He always looked forward to May 1 for the Kentucky Derby.

Lonnie is survived by his two brothers, Terry Raper and wife Melinda, and Lewis Raper, sister Joy McBride, good friends Terry “Big T” Bond, Jerry Greene, Greg Greene, Gary Hildreth, and Danny Hildreth, special niece and nephew, Tammy Ferrell and Tim McBride, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

In addition to his parents, Lonnie was preceded in death by his sister Treva Joyce Raper.

There will be a memorial service at Crain Hill Cemetery at a later date. Online condolences may be made at gardensofmemoryfuneralhome.com.
