Leonard Troy Rains

Leonard Troy Rains, 80, a McMinnville resident and Warren County native, died Jan. 7 at the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Murfreesboro following an extended illness.
He was born July 23, 1935 to the late Rufus J. and Dovie Young Rains of McMinnville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Grady, R.K., Bernice and Loyd Rains; and four sisters, Pauline Hall, Ethel Lorance, Irene Hall and Barbara Tittsworth.
Mr. Rains was a United States Army veteran and a retired Carrier employee with over 35 years of service. He enjoyed fox hunting with his brothers and friends. His door and heart were always open. He gave to family without expecting praise or reward. Leonard treasured time with his daughter and best friend, Liz Jaco.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Charles Kirby of Murfreesboro; granddaughters, Cristy Kirby of New Bern, N.C., and Brittany Englehart and husband Mason of Twentynine Palm, Calif.; sister Ann Stevens of Maine; and former spouse of 33 years, Hazel Rains of McMinnville, and all her loving and caring family. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at High’s Chapel with Jon Ballard officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of service Tuesday at High’s.
High Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
