Spencer resident and Rutherford County native Leonard Lawrence “Larry” Smotherman, 69, was born Sept. 30, 1945 and died April 25 at his residence following an extended illness. A mechanic with Edd Rogers General Motors, he was the son of the late Leonard Lee and Evelyn Morehead Smotherman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James Allen Smotherman and Richard Eugene Stone; sister, Annabelle Thompson; mother-in-law, Lucille Shockley; father-in-law, James Louis Shockley; and niece, Janie Bogle.
