Laurel Peninnah Grizzell, 92, of Winchester died Tuesday, Aug. 22 at Bailey Manor.
She was born Nov. 17, 1924 in McMinnville to the late Edward Ernest Grandey and Mary Ethel Golden Grandey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, I.J. “Ike” Grizzell Jr.; siblings, E.E. Grandey Jr., Ruth Cross, Phillip Grandey and Quinten Grandey.
She was a faithful member of Winchester Church of Christ who loved to read her Bible daily and put her faith above all else. Laurel loved cooking, gardening, canning, sewing, herbs and homemade remedies. Survivors include her children, Freda (Mark) Clifton of Winchester, Dwight (Micca) Grizzell of Sevierville, Penny (Mike) Schadegg of Reno, Nev., Ricky (Regina) Grizzell of Tullahoma and Kenneth (Lori) Grizzell of Bowling Green, Ky.; brother Walter (Doris) Grandey of Louisville; sister Joy Haston of Orlando, Fla.; grandchildren, Mark Clifton, Brent Clifton, Nathan Grizzell, Sarah Grizzell, David Grizzell, Heather Hickman, Heath Schadegg, Drew Schadegg, Joshua Grizzell, Jonathan Grizzell, Summer Bush, Isaac Grizzell and Amelia Grizzell,; 23 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27 at Moore-Cortner Chapel with Kenneth Grizzell officiating. Graveside services will be 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Mt. View Cemetery in McMinnville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Winchester Christian Academy, 1230 South College Street, Winchester, TN 37398.
