Rock Island resident and Warren County native Laura Faye Locke Shirley, 82, was born May 4, 1935 and died March 17 at NHC Healthcare McMinnville following a brief illness.
A retired employee of Oster and member of Rock Island Church of Christ, she was the daughter of the late James Virgle and Hattie Wretha Cantrell Locke. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by son Kenneth Wayne Shirley and three brothers, Lloyd Locke, Wayne Locke and Bob Locke.
Mrs. Shirley is survived by five children and their spouses, Debora and Mark Evans of Lewisburg, Mike and Carolyn Shirley of McMinnville, Phyllis Counts of Fayetteville, Kim and Rodney Church of Lewisburg, and Candy Miller of Rock Island, 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eva Rigsby of Rock Island and Mary Jo Smith of Manchester; brother James Locke of McMinnville and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was Tuesday, March 20, at High’s Chapel with Mike Steakley and Sean Rutledge officiating. Burial followed at Concord Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kenneth Shirley Memorial Soccer Scholarship c/o High Funeral Home.
High Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
