Morrison resident John Laxson died May 19 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro.

Morrison resident and Hillsboro native John Laxson, 85, was born Sept. 14, 1931 and died May 19 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro following a sudden illness.
The restaurant owner/operator for Uncle John’s Kitchen, a mason, a United States Army veteran of Korea, and a member of First Baptist Church of Morrison, he was the son of the late Jesse Cecil and Mary Magaline “Mable” Grooms Laxson. He was married to his wife of 64 years, Betsy Sue Smoot Laxson of Morrison. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister Jessie Kelley; three brothers, Bill Laxson, Daniel Laxson and Gwen “Red” Laxson; brother-in-law Dr. James N. Smoot Jr.; sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Ware Laxson, LoWanda Maxwell Laxson and Vera Hambrick Laxson.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Pamela Laxson and Luanne Laxson, both of Morrison; grandchildren of his heart, Whitney Vazquez, Lacey Jones, Maggie Mansell, Olivia Newby and Blake Newby; two brothers, J.C. Laxson Jr. of Manchester and Charles “Josh” Laxson of Morrison; sister-in-law Evelyn McBride Smoot of Nashville; special friends Cathy Mansell and Rachel Jones; and several nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 22, at Morrison First Baptist Church with Bro. Jerry Lusk officiating. Burial will follow at Morrison Cemetery with military grave rites administered by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at High’s and from 12 p.m. until the time of service Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kids of the Community.
