Rock Island resident and White County native Joe Strickland Moody Sr., 84, was born April 11, 1928 and died Nov. 26 at River Park Hospital following a brief illness.A retired employee of TVA, a farmer, a United States Army veteran of Korea, and a member of the Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Earl and Effie Hale Moody. In addition his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Luke and Wilma Moody, Faye Whitworth, Earlene Bishop and David, Leonard Moody and B.C. Moody; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, E.L. Whitworth, Mae and Austin Gibbs, Junior Whitworth, Wayne and Shearon Whitworth, and Preston Hillis.He was married Oct. 28, 1950 to Deamie Whitworth Moody of Rock Island. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Joe Strickland Moody Jr., and Barbara of Rock Island; four grandchildren, Stacey Harris Hart, Chad Harris, Joella Faye Moody and Cora Moody Stewart; six great-grandchildren; brother, Charles (Jimmie) Moody of Pikeville; three sisters, Deltrice Howard, Barbara Shockley and Virginia (Johnny) Baker, all of Spencer; sisters-in-law, Lillie Smith of McMinnville, Jenny Hillis of Rock Island, Lorena Snider of Greenville, Ind., and Joyce Glover of Baldwin Park, Calif.; two brothers-in-law, Joe Whitworth of Quebeck and Benny Whitworth of Spencer, and several nieces and nephews.Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today in High’s Chapel with Bob McCoy officiating.
