McMinnville resident and Ft. Payne, Ala. native Joe Lamar Hackworth, 59, was born Dec. 18, 1963 and died Aug. 17, 2023 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro following a sudden illness.           

A retired deputy sheriff with DeKalb County, Ala. and a member of McMinnville Church of God, he was the son of Lois Hackworth of Ider, Ala. and the late William Hackworth. 

He was married to Judy Hackworth of McMinnville on Feb. 16, 2019. In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Rebekah (Jacob) Sargent, Jonathan (Stephanie) Hackworth and Olivia (Corey) Smith, all of Ala., April (Will) Brown of Morrison and John (Bethany) Templeton of McMinnville; nineteen grandchildren; three siblings, Teresa (Steve) Hannah of Ider, Ala., Chris Hackworth of Sylvania, Ala. and Regina (Daryl) Payne of Powell, Ala. and several nieces and nephews. 

Per Mr. Hackworth’s wishes, he will be cremated. A memorial service will be held in Alabama at a later date.
