Mrs. Jennie Lee Goff Short, 94 of the Bon Air community of White County passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12, at her residence.
Mrs. Short was born Sept. 14, 1924 in Sparta to the late Ernest Edgar Goff and Mattie Mae Baker Goff. She was a retired seamstress and supervisor at Sutton's Shirt. She was devoted to her family, especially the children of the family, regardless if it was her children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews. Mrs. Short had a wonderful sense of humor. A proud homemaker, she loved to cook for every occasion and decorate her home for every holiday. At the time of her death, she was the oldest member of Bon Air Methodist Church where she was a longtime active member. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband Ernest Gaines Short; daughter Peggy Sue Richards; son-in-law James Richards; siblings Tudy Lockwood, Bud Goff, Ernestine Bennett, Paul Goff and Bobby Goff.
Surviving family members include her daughter Betty Hutchings, grandchildren Patricia (Dean) Day, Lori (Buddy) Livesay, Mary Beth (Michael) Laxson, Jason (Melody) Richards, great-grandchildren Kayla (Chuck) Mitchell, Chelsea (Robert) Pinkham, Gavin Laxson, Ethan Richards, step-great-grandchildren Matthew Laxson and Joey Laxson, 12 great-great-grandchildren, sister Faye Sapp, and son-in-law Harold Hutchings
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at Hunter Funeral Home Chapel with Rodney Ritchie officiating. Burial will follow at Old Bon Air Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening, Dec. 16, from 4 to 8 p.m. Richard Goff, Jeff Goff, Bruce Sapp, Keith Short, Douglas Price and Jason Richards will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Gavin Laxson, Ethan Richards and Jimmy Swift.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hunter Funeral Home.
