James Ray Bennett, 82

McMinnville resident and Jackson County native James Ray Bennett, 82, was born November 13, 1939 and died May 4 at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville following an extended illness.

A Tennessee Army National Guard veteran, retired concrete finisher and custodian and member of Central Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Lewis and Katherine Slatton Bennett. Mr. Bennett was a dedicated volunteer with Central Church of Christ Benevolence Program. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son Heath Bennett, brother Jerry Bennett, infant sister, and brother-in-law Eddie Pack.

Mr. Bennett is survived by two children, Eric (Candy) Bennett of Brunswick, Ga., and Kim (Eric) Goforth of McMinnville, three grandchildren, Beth (Zack) Wanamaker of Clarksville, Kennedy Goforth of McMinnville, and Destiny Domzalski of Brunswick, Ga., great-grandson, Tabias Wanamaker, brother Thurman (Hazel) Bennett of McMinnville, sister Margia Pack of McMinnville, former wife, Elizabeth Bennett of McMinnville, and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 9, at High’s Chapel with Ben Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Cemetery in McMinnville. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. until time of service at High’s. Online condolences may be made at
