Madison, Ala., resident and Van Buren County native James Louis Mayes, 76, was born May 15, 1939 and died Aug. 14 at his residence following an extended illness. A retired manager with Dove Foods and a member of Monrovia Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Thomas Jefferson and Minnie Shockley Mayes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Mary Russell; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Fred Noland and Lola Irene Dotson Scarbrough.
