Dibrell community resident and DeKalb County native James Edward Rankhorn, 83, was born Oct. 30, 1928 and died March 7 at his residence following an extended illness.A retired employee of Magnetek Century Electric and member of the Church of Christ, he was the son of the late James Finley and Minnie Lee Green Rankhorn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Shadie Ray Rankhorn; two grandchildren, Shane and Christopher Rankhorn; three brothers, John Leonard, Robert L. and Shadie O. Rankhorn, and sister, Ona Mae Roberts.He was married to Flora Bell Cope Rankhorn of the Dibrell community. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Regenia and Richard Myers of McMinnville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry Wayne and Jean Rankhorn of Eatonton, Ga., and Kenneth Douglas and Rita Rankhorn of Live Oak, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Shay Rankhorn and wife Brenda, Shelia Alphin, James A. Rankhorn, Shannon Rankhorn and wife Dena, J.C. Rankhorn and wife Laura, Jonathan Myers and Janifer Keen and husband, Greg; three step-grandchildren, Tommy McClain and friend Sabrina, Cindy Cooper and husband Jeff and Rex Green; 11 great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Arthur Rankhorn of Atlas, Okla., and Billy Ross Rankhorn of the Dibrell community; four sisters, Leella Young of Orlando, Fla., Betty Jean Bowdoin of Walling, Magaline Rankhorn of Sparta, and Edna Green of Rock Island, and several nieces and nephews.Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in High’s Chapel.
