James B. Atnip, 92, of McMinnville, passed away Thursday night at St. Thomas River Park Hospital in McMinnville.  

He was born May 5, 1926 to his parents, the late Russell and Cora Ferrell Atnip. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, James Russell Atnip and Debra Elaine Atnip; one great-grandson Josh, two sisters, Joyce Ratliff and Bessie Waggoner, and one brother, Gene Atnip.  

James was a member of Gath Baptist Church, a World War II U.S. Army veteran as field artillery, and worked with Citizens Gas Co. and was a former railroad worker. 

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy D. Atnip of McMinnville; three daughters Linda Jo (Steve) Nunley, Glinda Steakley and Brenda T. Atnip, all of McMinnville; 13 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, 31 great-great-grandchildren; one brother Wayne Atnip of Florida; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating with burial to follow at Gath Cemetery. Visitation is Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m.  

DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
