Irma Akers Locke, 83, of McMinnville died Friday, May 11, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro.
She was born Jan. 12, 1929, in Warren County and worked as a secretary and bookkeeper, and later owned and operated two children’s clothing stores in McMinnville. She was a member of Bates Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church and attended MTSU.
Mrs. Locke was preceded in death by parents, William Stokley and Bertha Lee Holder Akers; husband, William Wallace Locke Jr.; daughter, Myra Lee Chastain; sisters, Elwanda Martin and husband, Sterling and Euna Juanita Akers; and brother, Orion “Rooster” Akers and wife Florine.
Survivors include daughter, Vickie Ray Chastain Kell; grandsons, Michael Bryan Kell and wife Kristen, Jeremy Ray Kell and wife Penny; beloved great-grandchildren, Shelbi Morgan Ogle, Logan Andrew Kell, and Phoebe Jadyn Kell, sisters Genay Thompson, Peggy Akers, and Eulene Ferrell and husband Jimmy H., and brother W.S. Akers Jr., and wife Queita. Many nieces, nephews, family members, and friends also survive.
The family will receive guests during visitation Tuesday evening, May 15, from 4 to 7 p.m. at McMinnville Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be made at Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
