McMinnville resident and Davidson County native Herman Ray Spivey Sr., 89, died May 16 at River Park Hospital after an extended illness.The retired owner of Cumberland Lumber Company, a member of First Baptist Church, and a U.S. Navy veteran who fought in World War II, he was the son of the late Herman Roscoe and Minnie Barnes Spivey and was preceded in death by sister, Rozelle Spivey Wilson.He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Sumner Spivey; children, Dr. Elizabeth Spivey of Yankton, S.D., Sandra Kilgore of Greenback and Ray Spivey Jr. of McMinnville; six grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church with Rev. John May officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Cemetery with military graveside rites administered by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173.
