Grace Simmons Ward of McMinnville died Sept. 7 at Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta, Ga. She was 87.
She was born Nov. 2, 1929 in White County to the late William and Maude Scott Simmons.
She retired as a cafeteria manager in the Warren County School System, and also worked for Falcon Manor. She was a member of First Baptist Church and active in the church for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, James Allen Ward; three sisters, Pearl Smith, Lydia Raper and Lorene DeBusk; five brothers, Morgan, Lonnie, Dennie, Haskel and Dillon Simmons; and nine half-brothers and sisters.
She is survived by two sons, James Wesley and Cheryl Ward of Spring Lake, Mich., and Dr. Jonah Allen Ward of Atlanta, Ga.; four step-granddaughters; seven step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, at McMinnville First Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at High’s. Online condolences may be made at www.highfuneralhome.com.
