Mr. Gene Paul “Monk” Mayfield, 82, of McMinnville died Thursday, Nov. 22, at Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro.


He was born May 5, 1936, in McMinnville, was a 30-year employee of Fraley’s Furniture, a U.S. Army veteran, lifetime member of American Legion Post 173 and VFW Post 5064, former president of Warren County Pioneer Booster Club, former member of the Warren County Commission, and member of New Union United Methodist Church. Mr. Mayfield was preceded in death by wife of 59 years Lois Anne Goff Mayfield, parents Philip and Ova McBride Mayfield, sister Katherine (Fred) Kirby, son-in-law Buford Oscar (Ozzie) Bonner, father-in-law and mother-in-law H.L. (Harold) and Jewell Cruise Goff, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Joyce Goff (J.W.) Verble.


Survivors include his children Terry Ann Mayfield Bonner, Phillip Harold (Hal) Mayfield, Tonia Jean Mayfield (Mark Edward) Latka, and Tracy Jewell Mayfield (Thomas) Cope, grandchildren Breu (Melissa Lovell) Bonner, Anna Jade (Justin) Fults, Jensen and Samantha Bonner, Taylor, Zachary and Westlyn Latka, Madison and Gaines Mayfield, Alexis, Clara, and BeBe-Anne Brackley, great-grandchildren Adisyn Presley Bonner, Atlanta Jade Fults, Stella Grace Ann Bonner, Jackson James Gunter, Avery A.V. Fults, Remington Oscar Fults, and Zorrie E. Bonner, special nieces Vickie Verble Latka and Vonda Verble, and several nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.

Funeral service is 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, at New Union United Methodist Church. Rev. Tim Lewis will officiate. Interment will follow at New Union Cemetery. Military grave rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 173 and VFW Post 5064. The Mayfield family will receive friends Sunday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at New Union United Methodist Church, 196 Union Road, Rock Island, TN  38581. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
