McMinnville resident and Warren County native Freddy “Butch” Powell, 77, was born Oct. 20, 1937 and died June 22 at Raintree Manor following an extended illness.
Retired from McMinnville Housing Authority and a member of Smyrna Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Gene and Eunice Powell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister Melba McBride.
He was married Nov. 23, 1960 to Bobbie Hudson Powell of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children and spouses, Greg and Andrea Powell of Nashville, and Janet and Christopher Cantrell of McMinnville; five grandchildren, Webb Powell, Hudson Powell and Virginia Powell, all of Nashville, and Skyler Ware and Kryslyn Cantrell, both of McMinnville; three sisters and brother-in-law, Oma Jean Jones, Linda Jones, and Christine Keaton Prince and Paul of McMinnville; two brothers, James “Mousie” Powell and Carl Michael Powell, both of McMinnville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in High’s Chapel with Ronnie Powell and Ray Weddington officiating. Burial will follow at Smyrna Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at High’s. Memorial donations may be made to Relay for Life.
