McMinnville resident and DeKalb County native Frank Hayes, 78, was born Nov. 13, 1934 and died Aug. 4 at River Park Hospital following an extended illness.A retired iron worker with Local 25 and a United States Navy veteran of Korea, he was the son of the late William Ralph and Vada Austin Hayes. He was married to Verndeena Sutton Hayes, who preceded him in death July 1, 2002. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Maxine Bergjans; three brothers, John Thomas, William Ralph and Robert Earl Hayes; stepdaughter, Debbie Stribney; and brother-in-law, Thomas Parker.He is survived by two sisters and brother-in-law, Kathleen Parker of Lebanon, and Betty and Harry Dunn of McMinnville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Lucille Hayes of McMinnville and Jimmy and Sheila Hayes of Smyrna; and several nieces and nephews.A graveside service and interment was held Tuesday, Aug. 6 at Greenhill Cemetery in Waynesville, N.C., with Harry Dunn officiating.
