Florian W. Kupczyk, 79, of Rock Island, passed away on Jan. 22 at the Webb House Retirement Center in McMinnville.


Born Oct. 28, 1942 in Chicago, IL, he was the oldest child of the late Florian Sr. and Adeline Wisniewski Kupczyk. He had a long career in cost accounting and materials management with Teletype (later AT& T) Corporation, working at manufacturing plants in Skokie, IL, Little Rock, AR, Shreveport, LA, and Columbus, OH. He moved to Rock Island in 1999 and spent his retirement years fulfilling a lifelong dream of raising beef cattle.


He leaves two sons Christopher (Katherine Zucca) Kupczyk of Arlington, VA and Bryan Kupczyk of Knoxville, three siblings Judith (Lou) Semke of Kenosha, WI, Patricia (Robert) Strang of McHenry, IL, and Timothy (Candace Christman) Kupczyk of Prospect Heights, IL; and three grandchildren.


A Memorial Mass will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 31 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in McMinnville, where he was a member. Interment at St. Adalbert Cemetery, Niles, IL, will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to St. Catherine’s Church or the Lymphoma Research Foundation.
