Ferman Jay Young, 96, a McMinnville resident and DeKalb County native, was born Aug. 4, 1922 and passed away Jan. 14, at St. Thomas River Park Hospital following a brief illness.

He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army, retired co-owner of Morgan & Young Parts Inc., member of Central Church of Christ, and son of the late Shelie and Effie Poss Young. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Mary Lou Griffin, Cleon Barnes and Clessie Goodnight; and brothers Lewis Young and Clarence Young.

Mr. Young was married Feb. 14, 1948 to Evelyn Fariss Young, who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Stephen (Diane) Young and Donna (Larry) Williams, both of McMinnville; four grandchildren Ashlie Young Dorton (Matthew) of Knoxville, Shellie Young of Maryville, Kayla Williams Fann (Shawn) of Tullahoma, and Ryan Williams of McMinnville; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Elmus Young and Dean (Gloria) Young, both of McMinnville, and Dillard (Billie) Young of Arkansas; two sisters-in-law, Alma Fariss and Janey Young, both of McMinnville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at High’s Chapel with Tim Fariss to officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery. Visitation will be 12 p.m. Wednesday until the time of service at High’s. Memorial contributions may also be made to Meals on Wheels. Online condolences may be made at www.highfuneralhome.com.
