Spencer resident Mrs. Edna Louise Miller was born March 5, 1917, for which the mid-wife was paid $2.50 for delivering her. She was married to Arthur Lee Miller, who preceded her in death in 1975 after 38 years of marriage. They began their days of marriage with June, Edna’s baby sister who was 8 months old. Their mother had died just hours after June was born.
To their union were added five more children Agnes, Charles, Carolyn, Kathryn, and Deborah. Preceding her in death were June, Charles, and Kathryn, as well as an infant granddaughter, Susan. She is survived by Agnes (Sherman) Simmons of McMinnville; Carolyn (Aubrey) McBride of Galesburg, Mich.; and Deborah (Joe) Moffitt of McMinnville. Fourteen grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren also survive.
Edna loved to sew, cook, and garden. She also loved to share the works of her hands with her family and friends. The advancing years slowly took all her favorite pastimes from her, but her heart remained full of love for her family. As she grew older, when concerned loved ones would caution her to slow down, she would sometimes respond, “I would rather wear out than rust out.” She died Nov. 15. She was a member of the Church of Christ at Spencer.
Funeral service will be Friday at Layne Funeral Home in Spencer at 1 p.m. with Gene Brock and Joe Moffitt officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Cemetery in McMinnville. Visitation is Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service.
