Dow Yates, 79, a McMinnville resident and Putnam County native, was born Sept. 4, 1937 and died May 9 in St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy, self-employed in office supplies sales and service, and son of the late James Monroe and Mary Eller Yates. Mr. Yates was a member of McMinnville First Free Will Baptist Church and loved his church family deeply. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Margaret Carter; and brother, Bill Yates.
He was married Feb. 24, 1962 to Ola Walden Yates of McMinnville, who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children and spouse, Sandy and Ronnie Porter of McMinnville and Roger Yates of LaVergne; two granddaughters, Brittany Porter and Bethany Porter, both of McMinnville; sister and brother-in-law, Bobbie and Jerry Sliger of Cookeville; several nieces and nephews; and three sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Frances and John England, Helen and Donald Hutchings and Betty Smith.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 12, at High’s Chapel with Bill Eversole to officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery with military grave rites conducted by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. Visitation will be 10 a.m. Friday until the time of service at High’s.
