Daniel B. Boone Smith, 65

Manchester resident Daniel B. “Boone” Smith, 65, died Sunday at his home.
Mr. Smith was born in Lynchburg, the son of the late Lem and Linda B. Reese Smith. He retired from Carrier in 2005. Mr. Smith was a Christian and attended the Wesley Chapel and Mt. Carmel Churches.
He enjoyed auto racing, rabbit hunting, collecting knives and he also made walking sticks for the Boy Scouts. His favorite thing to do was simply working.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was also preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Smith and Paul Smith, and in-laws, Lena and Rusty Clayborn, Billy Clayborn.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jo Ann Clayborn Smith of Manchester; sons Joye (Amy) Smith of Manchester and Troy Smith of Manchester; daughter Linda (Anthony) Baker of Manchester; sister Dorothy Bay of Illinois; brother-in-law Harold (Joyce) Clayborn Jr.; grandchildren, Caleb and Cade Baker and a host of nieces and nephews. For those who wish to make memorial donations, the family suggests the Boy Scout Pack 332 in Hillsboro.
Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. today at Manchester Funeral Home Chapel with Scotty Sorrells officiating. Burial will follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
