Charlie Ray Smith, 93, of McMinnville (Blues Hill community) died Thursday, April 3 at NHC Health Care in McMinnville.
He was born March 7, 1921 in Cannon County and was a retired factory worker, a farmer, and a member of Sunny Hills Baptist Church. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Taylor Floyd and Ethel Bell Smith; his wife Alice Lorine Jones Smith, grandsons Roger Smith Jr., and Lynn Bell; sisters Velma Fugett, Alice Steed, Hilmer Hale, Annie Lee Todd, and Naomi Barrett, and brother Raymond Smith.
Survivors include his children, Mary (Billy) Bell of McMinnville, Delbert Ray (Rose) Smith of El Paso, Texas, Roger Smith of Liberty and Russell (Demetria) Smith of McMinnville; sisters, Audrey Gant of Indiana, and Nonnie Matheny of McMinnville; and a brother, Willie T. Smith of McMinnville; 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. John Jones will officiate. Interment will follow at Blues Hill Cemetery. The Smith family will receive friends Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. and again Saturday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the parlors of McMinnville Funeral Home.
