McMinnville resident and Kent, Ohio native Carol “Nan” Ann Christensen Smead, 89, was born Sept. 21, 1925 and died July 8 at NHC Healthcare in McMinnville.A telephone operator in Ohio, retired from Century Magnetek and a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Justin and Mary Josephine Ward Christensen. She was married to Gordon “Gunny” Allen Smead, who preceded her in death on March 17, 1989. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by grandson, Leonard “Lenny” Allen Frisby; two brothers, Harry and John Christensen; brothers-in-law, Herb Zimmerman and Walter Davis; sons-in-law, Larry Frisby and Stanton Minton; and grandson-in-law, Randy Dodson.She is survived by five children, Gordon Smead II and wife Glenda of Nashville, Darlene Minton, Laurie Frisby and Teresa Reed, all of McMinnville, and John Smead of Murfreesboro; seven grandchildren, Larry Frisby II, James Martin II, and Lucille Bradford and husband Robert Jr., all of McMinnville, Dawn Knight and husband Eric of Estill Springs, Eva Dodson of Rock Island, Gordon Burns of Florida and Suzanne Smead of Nashville; three great-grandchildren, Cody Frisby and Gunny Bradford, both of McMinnville, and Nate Dodson of Rock Island; two sisters, Betty Davis of Michigan and Sally Zimmerman of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church with Father Joe Lubrano officiating.
