Rock Island resident and Van Buren County native Billy Bob Bishop, 74, was born Nov. 20, 1937 and died July 12 at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga following an extended illness.
A retired painter and member of the Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Walter Mills and Mamie Melvira Hargrove Bishop Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Hennessee and Louise Nunley and two brothers, Elvin Bishop and James Monroe “Sonny” Bishop.
He was married Feb. 28, 2000 to Wilma Wilson Bishop of Rock Island. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Sherry Newby of McMinnville; son, Billy Bob “B.J.” Bishop Jr., of McMinnville; two grandchildren; stepdaughter, Deborah Rose of McMinnville; four step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Walter “W.M.” and Mary Ann Bishop Jr. of McMinnville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Elise and Jerry Killian of McMinnville and Juanita Wallene and Morris Scott of Rock Island and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today in High’s Chapel with Kevin Key officiating. Burial will follow at White Hill Cemetery in Van Buren County. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of service Sunday at High’s.
