Betty Jean Gurney Smith, 88

McMinnville resident and Warren County native Betty Jean “Gurney” Smith, 88, was born Nov. 14, 1925 and died Oct. 12 following a brief illness.
Retired from McMinnville Garment and a member of Westwood Church of Christ, she was the daughter of the late Johnathan Lloyd and Allie Louise McCormick Stanley.
She was married April 26, 1950 to Robert C. Smith, who preceded her in death on June 13, 1983. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by grandson Travis “Bubba” Steakley; brother, J.L. Stanley; and sister, Billie Bottoms.
She is survived by sister, Evelyn Flippin of Nashville; two children and spouses, Debbie and Gary Tubb of McMinnville, and Ricky and Lori Smith of McMinnville; five grandchildren and spouses, Lori and Bradley Hendrix of Smithville, Shay and Justin Tanner of Murfreesboro, Brittany Smith of McMinnville, Ally Smith of Chattanooga and Brent Tubb of McMinnville; and eight great-grandchildren, Dylan Tubb, Jailyn Bolding, Logan Earls, Jacob Hendrix, Jon Hendrix, Christopher Tubb, Wyatt Tanner and Caroline Rose Tanner.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in High’s Chapel with Bobby Newby officiating. Burial will follow at Smyrna Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at High’s. Memorial Contributions may be made to Kids of the Community.
High Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
