Baxter Hillis, 83

Mr. Baxter Hillis, 83, of the Centertown community died Friday Aug. 19, at his residence. 

He was born Sept. 5, 1938, in McMinnville, was a farmer, former owner of Hillis Market in Centertown, and was a retired employee of the Nissan Mfg. Plant in Smyrna. Mr. Hillis was affectionately known by many of his friends as “Cisco” and was also preceded in death by his parents Dalton and Ora Lorance Hillis.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years Linda Cantrell Hillis, their children Michael (Lesa) Hillis, Gina Melvin, and Martin (Amanda) Hillis, grandchildren Monica (Greg) Barton, Marisa (Tyler) Judkins, Eden Melvin, Dalton Hillis, and Drake Hillis, and a great-grandson Carter Barton. Other family members and friends also survive.

Graveside funeral services and interment will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, at Centertown Cemetery. Kent Killian, Phillip Prater, and Charles Williams will officiate. There will be no visitation at the funeral home as friends will meet the family at the cemetery. Online condolences may be made at
