Arlene Denton George, 89, of McMinnville died Tuesday, May 30, at NHC Health Care Center in McMinnville.
She was born April 13, 1928, in White County, was a retired employee of Genesco Shoe Company and was notably known for her business called The Lunch Basket in Centertown. Mrs. George was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ at Centertown, Centertown CIC, and was preceded in death by her parents, Barlow and Flossie Whiteaker Denton, her oldest son, Dannye Ray George, and was the last survivor of 10 siblings.
Survivors include her husband of 71 years, Warden Hulan George, children, Janice (Tylee) Marcum, Connie (Tony) King, Gary (Debra) George, Alan (Julia) George, and Bobby George, daughter-in-law, Jeanette George, grandchildren Christa (Chris) Wood, Brandon (Sheila) Marcum, Briena Harmening, Matt (Jessica) George, Kayla Hale, Maria (Josh) Miller, Corbin and Dylan King, and great-grandchildren, Braden Marcum, Hayden Hale, Hennessee Cope, and Zoe Raye Wood. Several nieces, nephews, family members, and friends also survive.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 2 at McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Dorris Hughes and Teb Batey will officiate. Interment will follow at Bethany Cemetery. The George family will receive friends Thursday from 4 to 9 p.m., and again Friday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the parlors of McMinnville Funeral Home.
