Alma Jean Borne Lay, 79, of McMinnville died Thursday, Feb. 12, at a Murfreesboro hospital. She was born in Gruetli-Laager on July 30, 1935 to Lawrence and Maude Woodlee Borne, who preceded her in death along with her husband, Clifford Lay Jr.; sister, Glenda Faye Borne; brothers, Andrew Clayton, Melvin “Snood” Stanley and Earl Borne. She had been a telephone operator and restaurant owner living in Colorado and Michigan.She is survived by her sisters, Christine (George) Bess of McMinnville and Mildred (Elvin) Marshall of Dearborn, Mich.; brothers, Dave Borne, Robert “Cosmo” (Doris) Borne; sisters-in-law, Virgil Marie and Virginia Borne; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.Funeral service was held Sunday in Layne Funeral Home Chapel with minister Clayton Jones officiating with burial following at Fall Creek Cemetery.Layne Funeral Home of Palmer was in charge of arrangements.Southern Standard (McMinnville, Tenn.)
