A.L. Phillips, 88, a McMinnville resident and West Palm Beach, Fla., native was born July 22, 1928 and died March 8 in St. Thomas West Hospital following a brief illness.
He was a retired employee of Formfit Rogers, an avid UT fan, member of Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church and son of the late Arthur Lester Phillips Sr. and Lela Curtis Phillips. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Donald C. Phillips.
Mr. Phillips was married Dec. 23, 1948 to Mildred Cantrell Phillips, who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Susan Phillips of McMinnville; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Chuck Taylor of McMinnville; three grandchildren, Allison Phillips Brewer of McMinnville, Gary Steven Phillips of Knoxville and Hannah Taylor of Brentwood; two great-grandchildren, Joshua Wanamaker and Baylor Brewer; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lois and Harold Tate of Roswell, Ga., and Elaine and Kenny Neal of McMinnville; sister-in-law, Betty Phillips of Tullahoma; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Harry Green to officiate. Interment will follow at Liberty Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday until the time of service at the church. There will be no visitation at High’s. Online condolences may be made at
