Viola gets On the Road Again

Viola Valley Homecoming’s Silver Jubilee ended with a bang Saturday night, literally. Fireworks filled the sky after the On the Road Again Show.
“The fireworks display was something we had never done before,” said Viola Valley Commission president Trent Prater. “We’ve talked about doing it, but cost always prevented it. We finally found a guy that can do it at a reasonable price. It might be something we do from now on.”
On the Road Again went well in its new location between the store and gazebo. The change was due to the rainfall prompting event organizers to seek higher ground.
“It was great,” said Prater, of the new location. “I had thought about relocating it there. Now that we did it out of necessity, we may continue to hold it there. It worked out so well.”
The event attracted notable musical “celebrities” such as Dolly Parton (Hillary Robinson) and Carrie Underwood (Ashley Silvus). Emcee for the evening was Kevin Deason.
“You should have seen these two back stage,” said Deason about Robinson and Silvus. “They were trying to use the same mirror. I think someone finally sprayed hairspray into the air and they walked through it.”
Rounding out the 19 acts were:
• Willie Nelson (Gary Roberts)
• Kenny Rogers (Tom Thaxton)
• Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn (Steven and Hillary Helton)
• Lauren Alaina (Rhiannon Hoover)
• Patsy Cline (Tabitha Lee)
• Luke Bryan (Joshua Young)
• Patty Loveless (Marian Thaxton)
• Little Big Town (Hillary Robinson and Hillary Helton)
• Reba McEntire (Connie Patrick)
• Jason Aldean (Billy Kesey)
• Wynonna Judd (Kelly Taylor)
• Tanya Tucker (Greta Hoover)
• Brantley Gilbert (Tyler Jones)
• George Strait (Colby Henson)
• The Judds (Kelly Taylor and Kara Helton)
• Blues Brothers (Steve and Steven Helton)
The weekend got off to a wet start with rain on Friday that ended with the cancellation of the tractor pull.
“We have yet to reschedule,” said Prater. “We still plan on trying.”
Technical support for the evening was provided by Prater.
