Warren County High School sophomore and FCCLA member Ashlee Myers distributes boxes to local businesses in an effort to seek donations of hygiene products and snack food items for needy students at the school. Donations will be accepted until Feb. 12.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a national career and technical student organization providing personal growth, leadership development and career preparation opportunities for students in family and consumer sciences education.
Warren County High School has an active FCCLA group participating in activities, competitions and service projects throughout the year. Currently they are kicking off a service project titled Helping Hands. They are partnering with National Honor Society and Student Council members to make it a success.
Students are collecting hygiene products such as shampoo, feminine hygiene products and soap; school supplies, such as pencils and paper; and pantry snacks, such as Ramen noodles or peanut butter. The items will be used in a free “store” for needy students at WCHS.
Co-chairs for the project are Caitlin Trapp and Ashlee Myers, both sophomore students.
“This project is important because we have some students that are in need of these products, and this is a way we can help them out,” said Myers.
They will accept items now through Feb. 12, with boxes at Southern Standard, First National Bank, Regency Finance, Security Federal Bank downtown, Citizens Tri-County Bank downtown, Chamber of Commerce, Foodland Plus and Warren County High School.
Local advisors are Connie Bell, Susanne Prater, Regan Hardy and Joanne Barnes. National FCCLA Week will be take place Feb. 7-13 with Mayor Jimmy Haley signing a proclamation officially marking the week. The members will address various themes throughout the week and will wear red on Wednesday, and invite all students and the public to do so in support of the group.
